This or That Book Tag

I realized today that it’s been a whole month since I’ve posted! I apologize for the unannounced hiatus – I was caught up with schoolwork, but I’m finally back with a tag created by the talented Ayunda @ Tea and Paperbacks. Thank you so much to Shruti @ This Is Lit and Cate @ Midnight Biblio Blog for tagging me. If you haven’t already, I encourage you to check out both of their lovely blogs.

Questions:

Reading on the couch or in bed?

I generally read just about anywhere at home, but if I had to pick, I’d say the couch. I usually end up reading myself to sleep in bed.

Main character: male or female?

Female, because I can relate to her thought process more easily; however, I do enjoy reading from a male perspective, too, especially when it comes to books with alternating POVs.

Sweet snacks or salty snacks while reading?

I don’t eat while reading, but in general, I prefer sweet snacks. I dislike chips, pretzels, popcorns, and most other salty foods.

Trilogies or quartets?

Trilogies – that’s one less book I have to wait for. 🙂

First person or third person point of view?

First person, because it helps me feel more connected with not only the protagonist but also the supporting characters, too. I find most books written in third person too detached.

Reading at night or in the morning?

I do both, but I typically read more at night.

Libraries or bookstores?

Libraries! I’ve mentioned this time and time again, but I feel as though libraries are underutilized gems. Books are quite expensive, so I save money by borrowing extensively from our local library.

Books that make you laugh, or books that make you cry?

There are very few books out there that have made me cry, so I’ll go with those. Ultimately, however, I believe the best books are the ones that can be you laugh AND cry, truly taking you on an emotional rollercoaster ride.

Black or white book covers?

I prefer my fantasy reads with a dark cover and my contemporary reads with a light cover; I feel as though this helps set up the mood for each, respectively.

Character or plot driven stories?

This one is tough because both superb characterization and a thrilling plotline are necessary for all phenomenal novels. If a book lacks a solid, enrapturing plot, then I feel as though it lacks purpose; on the other hand, if it lacks relatable characters, I end up forgetting their names and identities within hours of finishing it. If I had to choose, though, I would say character driven, because with most stories even if I can’t remember the specifics of the plot, I can usually recall character-related details.

  3. Thanks so much for the tag Niraja. I have already done this one before, and with the same questions, so I think if I do it again it will be the same answers, but thanks so much for thinking of me for this one! 🙂
    Most of my answers are actually opposite to yours. I prefer reading in my bed, even though yeah I fall asleep more often than not 🙂 and I love salty snacks and prefer third person POV as well. But I definitely agree with you on trilogies, just because yeah one less book to wait for! 😀

      Thanks so much! Reading in bed is very comfortable, but I end up doing more sleeping than reading, which is why I prefer my beanbag chair. I feel like third person POV can be difficult to do well, but definitely has the potential to be enticing. I’ve got a HUGE sweet tooth… do you dislike sweets, or simply prefer salty snacks?

      1. That’s all right, and ohh I think if I had a beanbag chair I’d do all my reading in that. As is my chair has all my clothes on and it’s too much hassle to move them to read only to move them again later to go to sleep! 🙂
        I think from my perspective third person works so much better with fantasy, the genre I read the most, simply because it offers us a wider view of the world than we could get from the individual protagonist.
        Nope, love sweets, just prefer salty snacks! 🙂

      1. Exactly! Plus they make it so easy for you to be able to access what you need or reserve books in advance so that you can almost plan what you’re going to borrow and what you might like to buy. That’s very true! It’s such a shame that that is the case for some people, it makes me really sad that the access is slowly being taken away and scaled back, especially when it comes to young and elderly readers. 😦 ❤

  10. Thanks so much for the tag!! I’m completely with you on trilogies and character driven stories. Although there are exceptions I tend to lean more toward trilogies because I love series but usually don’t like when they go past three books. And, like you said, one less book to wait for. 🙈

  14. Great answers! I feel like I agree with you on a lot of things hahaha except the snack thing because I prefer salties 😛 I guess it makes me feel less guilty if I consume a lot of it? Like… if it’s chocolate or candy, I feel guilty of eating to much but if it’s chip, bring it! 😛
